Alicea calls on his opponents to cease misleading campaign tactics
Representative Geraldo Alicea today condemned his opponents’ use of negative push polling throughout the 6th Worcester district.
“I have received many calls from upset voters asking why a company is calling under the guise of conducting a poll,” said Representative Alicea. “Numerous people have told me that the caller is spreading misleading information about me and my voting record while trying to alter the view of the voter. This is unacceptable and I call on my opponents to cease distorting facts and using misleading campaign tactics. Our voters deserve much better.”
A push poll is a political campaign tactic. An individual or organization attempts to alter the view of the voter under the appearance of conducting a poll. Large numbers of voters are called while little or no effort is made to collect or analyze real data. This campaign tactic is illegal in New Hampshire.
“Now is not the time for negative and deceptive campaign tactics. And, my opponents owe our voters a higher level of respect,” said Alicea. “My campaign is focused on the issues facing our communities, not on misleading voters. My campaign is based on my experience as a state legislator, not on misrepresenting my opponents. My campaign is about what we have accomplished together to improve our district, not on tearing others down. We should be discussing how to improve our education system, ways to maintain state funding, how to increase jobs. Candidates should not be spreading false information in order to gain votes.”
“I call on my opponents to run a campaign based on their experience and backgrounds, not on spreading lies about my voting record. I believe the stakes are too high given the economy and other challenges facing our towns.”
